All ultrabooks have to meet certain thickness dimensions based on their screen size, offer a minimum battery life, and meet both data transfer rates and resume-from-standby times that necessitate at least an SSD cache. Most ultrabooks tend to also have a partial or complete aluminum chassis and, frankly, very Macbook-esque aesthetic.
Dell’s XPS 14 ultrabook is one of the first around that bucks the trend. The chassis measures just 0.81 inches thick and 4.6 lbs, yet manages to pack in a 69Whr 8-cell battery that Dell claims is good for up to 11 hours of run time. They even managed to squeeze in NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphics too, which dynamically switches with the HD 4000 graphics built into the 3rd gen Core processor. Dell also dropped in two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, ethernet, headphone, and a 3-in1 media card reader.Basiclally, from the glass touchpad to the backlit (and spill resistant) keyboard to the soft-touch paint, the XPS 14 oozes premium.
